Businesses and Cooperatives honoring the General Strike
by Design Action Collective
We have created this site to show all the businesses that are ceasing normal activities* to support and honor the November 2nd Oakland General Strike. We believe that we can make a strong statement by taking a day off of income generating activities and spending it laboring to let the country know that we stand together for a fundamental shift in priorities.
If you are a business owner, a worker cooperative member, or board member we urge you to do the same, and to let the world know. Announce it on your website and on your lists. Post signs in your windows. And let us know.

Design Action has voted to be closed for business on Wednesday, November 2nd, in recognition of the General Strike and Day of Action call approved by Occupy Oakland. We realize worker coops are in a unique position, where withholding our labor to show the bosses who really has the power is not necessary. However, we believe it is important to honor this historical moment and join with everyone else, in the streets, turning the tide.
Worker coops represent the high ideal of worker control over our labor and the means of production. We are the antithesis of the 1% that makes money off of everyone else’s work. This is our chance to stand up and say, this is the solution for the 99%!
Friends,
Auto Glass Express will close for business and join the action on November 2nd. For those of you with young children, we will be joining a family march gathering at 12 noon at the Oakland main library and heading to Frank Ogawa Plaza. Please join us.

Dear Biofuel Oasis customers;
In solidarity with Occupy Oakland’s General Strike, we will be closing our Berkeley store Wednesday, November 2. The pumps will remain open so you can get fuel from 11am-7pm without a Fueling Freedom Card.
As you know, we are a worker-owned collective that sells locally-made fuel and urban farm supplies which empower people to grow their own food. All of the money spent at the Biofuel Oasis goes into a local credit union, and helps small businesses. Thank you for supporting a model that defies big corporations and big banks!
See you down there,
Ace, Jennifer, Margaret, Melissa, and Novella

Enough is enough.
We support our local community.
We resist injustice everywhere.
We are the 99%.
Join us as we stand in solidarity with the 99% and demand justice, people power NOT corporate power and true democracy.
Bless you all. Our unified voices against the absurd and out of control capitalism that puts obscene profits before EVERYTHING is so overdue and so welcome that it puts tears of joy in my eyes, replacing the ones that have been building up over the last several decades of witnessing these MFs throw everything that is sacred down the toilet. This is about LOVE which is the only thing that will heal the untold damage done in the name of God and money. We need and demand the return of health, healthcare, housing for all, education, the arts, social security, social services, our country and our planet. The politicians who have facilitated these corporate crimes should be in jail along with the “businessmen” whose business it has been to use fear, bigotry and greed to hijack what this country could and should be – a place of LOVE for and by the working class upon whose backs everything is held up. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!! NOW!!!
